WHAT IS SUCCESS?

Is success money?  How much money do you need to be considered successful?  I observe people around me chasing after more and more money, flaunting the items that their money can buy expecting it to buy acceptance; often losing their families in their quest for more money.

Is success academic achievements?  How many academic certificates, degrees, honorary degrees and/or master degrees do you need to be considered successful?  Do you look down upon people who don’t have the same academic abilities or opportunities as you or are you on the flip side of the coin where you are being looked down upon?

Is success social status? How many important people do you need to rub shoulders with before being considered successful?  Then I wonder how many of these very important people will still be at your side when you make a mistake.

By no means am I begrudging people who have money, academic achievements and/or social status.

However, what I would like to know is to what degree they experience the following as described in:

Galatians 5:22-23 New International Version (NIV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.

People’s attitude towards Success are mostly characterised as:

  1. It is something that they absolutely, at any cost, need to have

or

  1. The odds are against me, I am not going to be successful, so why even try.

Please allow me to share my truth about Success with you:

  1. To me Success is an on-going process to strive towards reaching your own potential, finding God’s plan for your life.
  2. You were never intended to measure yourself against the achievements of other people.
